List of Teaching Resources

The resources below are a running list of teacher and student resources that can be affective in the classroom.  They are broken up by type of software or app. Each tool is hyperlinked to its name followed by a brief description of its function.  If the link is broken or you would like me to add a resource please click here to message me. 

Online Presentation Tool

  • Prezi -- Build a presentation online and integrate a variety of text, graphics, media, and sources. Can be designed to run automatically or to be controlled from a presentation. Can be downloaded for offline use/viewing.

  • Nearpod- Interactive whiteboard app


Video Editing Sites/Software
 

  • Windows Live Movie Maker -- Available for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Get Windows Moviemaker. Very easy to use. Great for simple video projects. Allows direct upload to Youtube. Will import many kinds of video. There is also a classroom guide for Windows Live Movie maker -- Windows Live Movie Maker In the Classroom

  • Video Spin -- Powerful video editing. Create school projects. Free downloadable software that allows you to edit video and save in various formats, including upload to Youtube (No longer available directly from Pinnacle Software -- but available as a Free download from sites such as Softonic)

  • Camtasia from TechSmith - an easy to us, fairly powerful screen capture and video editing package. Available for Mac and for PC. There is a free trial period. They do offer an educational discount. The version for Mac simply includes the Camtasia software and is less expensive than Camtasia Studio for PC.

  • Pinnacle Studio for iPad -- Paid app

  • Ustream Producer -- Has a free version -- Ustream Producer is a desktop application allowing broadcasters to stream in high qualityjust like they would from Ustream's website.

  • avidemux -- Avidemux is a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many file types. (Open Source -- Free)

  • Apple has iMovie that is available for the MAC, iPad, and iPhone.

  • You can also download 30 day trail versions of several different products. Adobe makes Premiere Elements and Pinnacle makes Pinnacle Studio. If you use these, you may have to purchase to get full access for exporting and using all of the tools. So check the "free trial" functionality before putting a lot of time into composing a video with a trial version. Most do offer discounted pricing to educators.

  • There are several other possible options that you may search out or that you may find via recommendations from colleagues.


Screen Capture Software (Brief Screen Casting Tutorial)
 

  • Screencast-O-Metic - Allows you to capture your screen and webcam. Free version allows up to 15 minute videos and publishing to YouTube. Paid version is $15 per year and adds additional features as well as removing the watermark.

  • HyperCam -- for capturing screen recordings from your computer. Supports text annotations, sound, and screen notes. Saves as .avi file which can be uploaded to Youtube. (free version)

  • CamStudio Screen Recording Software – for capturing screen recordings from your computer. You can add audio and annotations. (Open Source – Free)

  • Jing -- free download. A fairly simple to use screen casting/capture utility. Free version cannot upload to YouTube

  • BB Flashback Express -- Free screen casting software from Blueberry Software. They do have a more enhanced pay version that has a 30 day trial.

  • Other possible screen casting software (some are pay versions)



Online Polls and Surveys
 

  • Poll Everywhere -- Has a free version with up to 40 participants per poll.

  • Socrative -- Create online quizzes. Could be used for polls in the classroom.

  • Online Polls -- a FREE online tool that allows you to post a poll on a web page or social media page.

  • Survey Monkey-- A free tool that allows you to create, post and publish surveys. Free edition has some limitations.

  • Pear Deck - an interactive presentation tool that allows user response.

  • Google Forms- an integrated software that can be imbedded into email, documents, and presentations that is completely user friendly. 


Audio Recording and Editing Tools
 


Audio and/or Video Converters (for converting sound files or video files--may need in some podcasting or videocasting situations)
 

  • Free Audio Converters -- A list of 4 audio converters with descriptions from About.com.

  • Free Video Converters -- A list of 5 video converters with descriptions from About.com

  • Switch -- Free Version -- Convert and encode sound files on Windows and MAC. There is a trial version, paid version, and free version.

  • winLAME Audio Encoder -- Audio converter/encoding software. winLAME lets you set up the encoding process with an easy-to-use wizard-style user interface.
