Why did you get into education?
Education seemed to be a natural fit for my desire to make a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities and to be able to support the families of these children. Teaching a child to speak, read, calm, or become more independent is what drives my passion to teach.
How many years have you been in education?
Over the past 23 years I have taught all areas of special education, ranging from children 3 years of age through the sixth grade and spent 6 of those years as a General Education preschool and kindergarten teacher. In 2017, I was hired as the Director of Special Services, a role in which I enjoy being able to support and share my experiences with both special education and general education teachers as they are on the frontlines with our children in the classroom.
I am married to Judge Rob Barker and the mom of two children, Zach and Savanna, who are all East Prairie High School alumni. In my spare time I enjoy reading, spending quality time with family and friends, singing along to K-LOVE, and traveling to anywhere with white sand, seashells, and big waves.
