Superintendent of Schools
Ms. Jones graduated from East Prairie High School in 1988. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from Murray State University in 1992. Then she completed a Masters of Arts in Guidance and Counseling in 2000, and completed Specialist in Educational Administration in 2014. Both of those degrees were earned from Southeast Missouri State University.
Why did you choose the education field?
The reason I chose teaching as a profession over 25 years ago are definitely not the reasons that I remained in education. My reason for choosing education when I was a young 19 year old was because I thought it would be the perfect job for someone who wanted to raise a family, would allow me to return to East Prairie (or at least in the area), and I would be following in the footsteps of my oldest sister.
I consider myself to be a lifelong student. I love learning! When I worked on my master’s degree with a full time job and young children, I always said that getting to class was the hard part. The most fulfilling part was learning new information and then figuring out how to use the knowledge in my profession. What I also found was that I loved sharing that knowledge with my peers. I discovered that not only was I born to be an educator but I was born to be a leader.
I feel that my background and experience has allowed me to see this school district from a unique perspective. I know this community, I know these students, I know our staff, and I know that I have a desire to give back to the small town that I call home. When I began as an administrator, I was intimidated, afraid of confrontation, and unsure of how to use my voice. Fifteen years of experience took care of those fears and showed me that I shine in conflict resolution, that I am a lot smarter than I ever believed, and that I still have the potential and desire to do great things.
What should everyone know about you?
I am a mom to Mack, age 20 and Luke age 17, as well as to my 4 legged children, Scooter who's 11 and Gradie Jane who is 2. When I'm not watching my kids play sports, I love to kayak on the Current River, visit the Gulf in Orange Beach, Alabama, or travel just about anywhere in the U.S.A. I also love cooking, making homemade pickles, singing along to a wide variety of music, and binge watching Grey's Anatomy reruns.
